Essar Oil, one of the India’s leading oil and gas producer, said the company has become the largest Coalbed Methane (CBM) gas producer in the country with its Ranigunj gas unit hitting the 5 lakh standard cubic meters production mark.
Manish Maheshwari, company’s CEO for production and exploration said, "We have been able to register a multifold increase in CBM production to 5.5 lakh scmd and expect to ramp up delivery to 12 lakh scmd over the next few months by bringing wells on production stream which are drilled and are presently under completion and dewatering phase.”
100 wells which were already placed at the facility are under production, while another 155 were drilled, and at various stages such as a dewatering. Gas production will be boosted furthermore once the wells which are under construction come into play.
A first of its kind gas project in India, Essar Oil’s Ranigunj gas unit extracts methane gas from the earth by drilling deep into a coalbed.
The company said it has built world-class infrastructure at the unit, including gas conditioning and compressing facilities, and 120 kilometer long in-field pipelines.
"With unity of conception, technology and team effort, we have been able to register a multifold increase in CBM production to 0.55 mmscmd and expect to ramp up delivery to 1.2 mmscmd over the next few months by bringing wells on production stream which are drilled and presently under completion and dewatering phase," CEO Manish Maheshwari added.
